Each year three finalists are invited to participate at the prize ceremony of the Robotdalen Scientific Award. Not until then do they know who the winner is.
The three candidates attending the prize ceremony on September 9th 2009 are:
In 2009 Davide Scaramuzza from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Switzerland won the Robotdalen Scientific Award. The other finalists were Mario Prats from Jaume-I University in Spain and Sami Haddadin from RWTH University in Germany
In 2008 Sylvain Calinon from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland won the Robotdalen Scientific Award and received the prize sum of € 20 000. The other finalists, Pinhas Ben-Tzvi from University of Toronto in Canada and Antonios Bouloubasis from University of Reading in Great Britain, both received honorary mentions and € 1 000.

In 2007 Eric Demeester from Katholieke Universiteit in Belgium won the Robotdalen Scientific Award and received € 20 000. The two other finalists were Bram Vanderborght from Virje Universiteit Brussel, Belgium and Mike Stilman from Carnegie Mellon University, USA, who both received honorary mentions and a prize sum of 1 000 euro each.
