Award and access to robot platform for Gasbot

Researchers at Örebro University in Sweden has won the "Award of Distinction: Environmental Contribution" for the project Gasbot: A Mobile Robotic Platform for Landfill Emissions Monitoring. They have also been selected among 150 other universities in the PartnerBot Grant Program, giving them access to the Clearpath Robotics robot platform Husky A200.

Researchers at Örebro University develop a mobile platform with gas sensors that can detect and locate hazardous gases. The project focuses on the discovery of methane gas at landfill sites and develops a prototype for testing. The project is called Gasbot and is partially funded by Robotdalen.

The project has now been selected for the PartnerBot Grant Program from the Canadian company Clearpath Robotics. 10 of 150 projects were selected, Gasbot being one of them. This gives access to the robotic platform Husky A200 providing the project with new possibilites for development and testing.

The project also received the Award of Distinction: Environmental Contribution, with the following statement from Clearpath Robotics.

"Orebro University’s unique research project will use the Husky mobile robotic platform to navigate the treacherous environment of landfills to monitor gas emissions, specifically methane. This exciting project will have obvious environmental benefits. Code developed for navigation and gas detecting sensors will make a great addition to the ROS code base".
