The Robot Cat
In the Robot Cat project, the potential to develop a robotic soft toy to soothe people with dementia, especially in a late stage of the disease and thereby contributing to an increased quality of life, is being investigated.
Christine Gustafsson and the Robot Cat.
The Robot Cat is designed to look and behave like a real cat; to react when being touched and emit heat. Thereby giving comfort, and at the same time being an aid to caregivers. The cat is being developed in consultation with Attendo Sweden in Eskilstuna, where it is also being tested.
The organizations behind the project are Mälardalen University, Samhällskontraktet, Almi and Robotdalen. The project is run by Professor Lars Asplund along with health researcher and medical doctor Christine Gustafsson at Mälardalen University.
Robotdalen’s contributions consist of financing, as well as valuable contacts between researchers and the healthcare sector.
